The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, took office for his second term this Wednesday afternoon (1st), at an event at the City Council. Afterwards, Nunes went to the commemorative ceremony at the Municipal Theater, when he swore in the secretariat. The speeches, at the Municipal, were marked by an emphasis on management focused on the quality of service to citizens.
In her speech, Nunes highlighted the priority programs in the first administration and avoided touching on sensitive topics such as the increase in tension in civil service sectors, allegations of participation of members of the Metropolitan Civil Guard in militias in the city center, corruption in buses and the outsourcing of services, such as funeral services, in addition to the issue of electricity distribution, which have been heavily criticized in the last two years.
Nunes was re-elected in the second round of elections in São Paulo with 59.35% of the valid votes, having been the choice of 3,393,110 voters, just over a million votes more than the second place, state deputy Guilherme Boulos (Psol).
Ricardo Nunes took over as mayor of the city of São Paulo, in 2021, after the death of Bruno Cova (PSDB), victim of cancer. The MDB candidate, before being mayor, was a councilor between 2013 and 2020.
Inauguration of councilors
The inauguration of the 55 councilors of the capital of São Paulo went smoothly, with a brief discussion when Zoe Martínez (PL) mentioned the name of former president Jair Bolsonaro, responded by shouts from the audience, where some cried “no amnesty”. Presiding over the session, councilor Eliseu Gabriel commented briefly, into the microphone, with a succinct “It started early”.
Also present at the Chamber event, which took place earlier, Ricardo Nunes and his deputy, Colonel Ricardo Mello Araújo, read their terms of commitment to the House and the positions they assumed. In his speech, Mello cited Bolsonaro and spoke about working together with everyone. He recalled his experience at Ceagesp, which he presided over in the last administration, and at the Military Police.
Nunes, as in his speech at Theatro Municipal, greeted authorities, and highlighted the work of Milton Leite, president of the Chamber in the last administration, and who did not seek re-election.
The mayor recalled themes from his conciliatory victory speech and cited Bruno Covas’ inauguration speech, who then stated that there was no room for personalism and arrogance in the role of mayor.
Ricardo Nunes recalled the partnership with governor Tarcísio de Freitas and spoke about the collapse of the bridge on the Tocantins River, highlighting the importance of carrying out renovations on bridges and viaducts in the capital of São Paulo, among other programs and priorities of his management.
After the ceremony, the election of councilor Ricardo Teixeira (União Brasil) as president of the São Paulo Chamber was conducted, with part of the votes from the opposition, without the Psol bench, which presented the candidacy of Celso Giannazzi.
