Tragic balance, with injuries and fatalities, has left the collapse of the bridge over the La Vieja river, which also connects Valle del Cauca with Quindío.
The accident that occurred on the afternoon of this Wednesday, April 12, has generated a huge impact, not only for Colombian land transport, but also with a huge loss for several families in the country.
Mayor and a patrolman fatalities
About the facts there have been many speculations that have been shared through social networks.
But the governor of the department of Quindío and the president of the ANI have already spoken about it.
They indicated that in the midst of the collapse there were three police turbos, two tractor-trailers and a private vehicle involved.

Roberto Jaramillo, president of the neighboring department, also added that it was important not to fall for false news, so far.
The official report of the collapse of the structure would have been presented due to “fatigue, but the experts determined the causes”, likewise ruled out an “act of terrorism”.
Jaramillo added that the fatalities so far are a mayor and a patrolman, the latter from the Simón Bolívar Police School in Tuluá.
Another 15 people were injured.
For his part, William Camargo, president of the ANI, specified that the 1984 bridge has had recurring maintenance and the last verification carried out three months ago did not reveal any problem.

In the face of the emergency, the alternate routes that are being used for the passage of vehicles between the two departments are the following:
- Calarcá – Armenia – Pereira – Cartago (Quindío – Valle del Cauca direction, for heavy vehicles).
- Cartago – Pereira – Armenia – Calarcá (in the Valle del Cauca – Quindío direction, for heavy vehicles).
- Quimbaya – Alcalá – Cartago (Quindío – Valle del Cauca direction, for light vehicles).
- Cartago – Alcalá – Quimbaya (in the Valle del Cauca – Quindío direction for light vehicles).
