Santiago. Mayor Abel Martínez inaugurated the Merca Pekin, in the southern zone, with an investment of approximately 100 million pesos and which will accommodate more than a hundred peddlers. The work was delivered after almost seven years of waiting by the sellers.
In total, the two-level building has 150 modules distributed for shops, the sale of sausages, meats, vegetables, tubers and cafeterias. The mayor said that the Beijing market will significantly contribute to the economic movement and generate more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Martínez reported that the delivery process will be complete by March of next year, due to the purification work of those who will occupy the modules. The also presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party said that they began the construction of the market from scratch and that with the support of the Council of Aldermen, they annulled the irregular distribution that had been made of a work in which they had invested only 22 millions of pesos.
Abel Martínez indicated that the investment in the Beijing Merca constitutes a point of balance and drive for the southern zone, which will have a space where they can also offer public services, such as charging for electricity, drinking water, or banks and cooperatives.
He warned that this space will not be slumped, and that it should not only be for entrepreneurs, but for the entire southern zone, with jobs, with producers, and that it will mobilize hundreds of millions of pesos per month, which will definitely impact families. of these communities.
Griselis Martínez and Angelita Villamán spoke on behalf of the community organizations in the southern zone, who highlighted the importance of the project for the development of the Beijing community.
