Maycol Jhom Herrera Gutiérrez, 38, joined the social protests in the municipality of Nagarote, department of León, in 2018. His participation in the April revolt, which the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario repressed with blood and fire, led him to jail in 2021.
He is one of the 37 political prisoners that the dictatorship holds hostage in Nicaraguan prisons, he remained in the León Penitentiary System and was not released along with the 222 opponents who were exiled to the United States.
“He has been in prison for 742 days since his capture on March 3, 2021. He was sentenced to seven years in prison in a trial with many irregularities and clear violations of due process. He is currently in the SPN of León », denounced the Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners on their social networks.

Herrera Gutiérrez was accused of a common crime along with another political prisoner who was included in the list of the more than 200 hostages that the regime took their nationality and handed them over to the North American country on February 9.
He suffers from various health problems that require timely medical attention. His relatives have demanded on multiple occasions that he be released because they consider that he is innocent.
The more than 30 political prisoners of the Nicaraguan regime are distributed in five prisons in the country. Most of them are held captive in the National Penitentiary System (SPN), known as “La Modelo”. 27 of those imprisoned were arrested as of April 2018, the remaining citizens are in prison before that year.
