A serious traffic accident in the Manrique neighborhood of Medellín claimed the lives of three people, including a two-year-old baby, who became the third fatal victim of the accident.
The events occurred on Monday, August 19, at around 5:50 p.m., when a special transport bus, allegedly due to brake failure, rammed two taxis, a motorcycle and a Metro feeder bus on 69th Street and 44th Street.
Emergency teams from the DAGRD, health personnel, police and traffic officers immediately arrived at the scene of the accident and dealt with the situation.
The incident left a tragic balance of three dead and 16 injured, who were immediately transferred to different medical centers.

Medellin Mayor Federico Gutiérrez, visibly affected by the situation, expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims.
“In the midst of rescue efforts following the tragic accident, 2-year-old Maximiliano was found dead. What a huge pain. My solidarity with his family!” he wrote on his official X account, accompanied by a video where a firefighter, in a moving act, prays for the little boy’s soul.

The firefighter, with a broken voice, recounted the difficult moment when they found the child.
“He still had a lot of life ahead of him. Give him all that happiness and joy in heaven,” he said, in a brief prayer that reflected the deep sadness of those who participated in the rescue efforts.
For his part, Medellín’s Mobility Secretary, Mateo González, confirmed the deaths and assured that the families will receive legal and psychosocial support from the Mayor’s Office.
In addition, it was announced that a technical investigation will begin on Tuesday, August 20, to clarify the causes of the accident.
Although preliminary reports indicate that the bus had all its documents in order, a detailed inspection will be key to understanding what happened.

The tragedy that has plunged Medellín into mourning once again highlights the need to strengthen road safety measures and to more rigorously review the conditions of public transport vehicles in the city.
