Colonel Maximiliano Dávila, former anti-drug chief of the Government of Evo Morales, went on hunger strike because he is not heard by the judicial authorities, despite the fact that the legal resources that he raised proved him right; This was reported by Manolo Rojas, defense attorney for the former police chief.

“Yes, he has taken the extreme measure for six reasons: there are four freedom actions that were won in the courts and two incidental appeals that also, uniformly and unanimously, say that my client, Maximiliano Dávila, should be under house arrest or, failing that, with pure and simple freedom ” reported the defense attorney.

On the night of January 22, 2022, Dávila was apprehended at the Bolivian-Argentine border in Villazón-La Quiaca. The apprehension occurred after alleged reports from the US anti-drug agency of a process against the former police chief for alleged links to drug trafficking were published; his lawyer said that, So far, prosecutors have not been able to prove the existence of that report. or the link with it of Colonel Dávila.

Also, the lawyer said that requested the intervention of the Ombudsman, since his client is being held in subhuman conditions, because he has no contact with the inmates of the prison or with relatives who want to visit him. The defense entity has not ruled so far.

Colonel Maximiliano Dávila He was the national director of the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (Felcn) in the government of Evo Morales, before he resigned from his position, in 2019. Dávila was mentioned in the DEA reports together with a former police major Omar Rojas, who was arrested in Colombia and designated as an alleged head of cocaine trafficking from Bolivia. Due to this report, Dávila was persecuted and captured in Villazón.

The lawyer explained that, until now, the existence of this report has not been proven because never appeared; he stated that neither links to drug trafficking were proven. Regarding the more than 50 properties that the District Attorney, Williams Alave, entrusted to him, the defense attorney assured that it was verified that there were 40, and that they are plots of land from a family inheritance, which should be divided between four brothers; He also pointed out that the land is in the rural area and was appraised with a minimum amount.

Rojas recalled that, since his client was apprehended for six months, the prosecutor did not extend the period of preventive detention and, therefore, they went to justice so that the accused could be released; but the memorials of him were not attended. davila he is imprisoned for a year.

Likewise, the lawyer indicated that, since Dávila sent to read the letter with accusations to the authorities, on January 21, things got worse because the prosecutor’s office raised the accusation of his son Bernardo Dávila, even though he had not committed any crime.
