Santo Domingo.-The agreement signed by Maxi Montilla with the Public Ministry establishes that this took advantage of its family closeness with former president Danilo Medina to form a structure of corruption in the electricity sector, through an illicit network that manipulated public procurement processes and hiring processes.
According to the agreement arrived with the accusing body, under the criterion of opportunity, Montilla showed regret for having been part of the criminal corruption network to the detriment of the State and effectively cooperated in the investigation of the octopus case, for the submission of the other responsible for the octopus case. The document indicates that Montilla, brother -in -law of the then President Medina, used his family bond to design and create a criminal network with the aim of establishing technical requirements and contractual conditions that favored their companies with contracts of the electricity distributors (Edenorte, Edesur and Edewester).
The document indicates that Montilla altered contractual specifications in the execution, paid bribes, washed money from illegal activities, manipulated delivery terms, accessed privileged information, simulated emergencies, overvalued products and supplied recycled equipment as new, among other irregularities.
Among the privileged information that Maxi Montilla accessed were the public procurement processes, which allowed him to anticipate the requirements and conditions of purchases, as well as to know administrative decisions before his official publication.
The instance establishes that a monopoly of suppliers in the electricity sector was created. After the approval of the agreement, Maxi Montilla and its companies accepted their criminal responsibility and authorized the confiscation of RD $ 2,000 million in cash in favor of the State.
In addition, they will proceed to return a property valued by the sum of more than 50 million pesos, compensate the distribution companies with 600 million pesos and pay 431 million pesos to the DGII.

Maxi Montilla will have to pay the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) RD $ 431,816,307.90, and the payment of compensation of RD $ 600 million to electricity distributors (Edeeste, Edesur and Edenorte).

Audience. The judge of the First Court of the National District, Raymundo Mejía, will read on the 23rd the sentence in which the approval of the agreement signed between Maxi Montilla and the Public Ministry is established, through which he admitted the facts.
