Former Argentine international Mauro Icardi will undergo surgery next Monday in Argentina for the torn cruciate ligament he suffered at the beginning of the month, as reported this Wednesday by Galatasaray Istanbul, where he currently plays.
“The two or three-week preparatory period that we planned has been completed. We have decided to operate,” Galatasaray doctor Yener Ince announced at a press conference in Istanbul.
Icardi tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Europa League match against Tottenham on November 7, which will clearly keep him off the pitch for the rest of the season.
Days later, the player traveled to Argentina on a private trip.
“Mauro is in Argentina both for family reasons and for social issues. He went through the preparatory process (for the operation) there. To avoid problems in the rehabilitation period we have decided to do the operation there. It will take place this Monday” (two of December), the doctor said.
He added that the club concluded the rounds of conversation today to determine the type of operation and the clinic in which it will be done, although he did not give more details about it.
“We decided that Mauro would spend the rehabilitation period in Argentina, where it is summer now, which is more comfortable, and to avoid problems due to having to travel again after the operation, we decided to operate on him there,” Ince explained.
Galatasaray currently leads the Turkish Super League with a five-point lead over its closest rival, Fenerbahçe, but now has two important players injured, apart from Icardi himself.
On November 10, left-back Ismail Jacobs was injured and last Saturday, right-back Kaan Ayhan, both with a forecast of not being able to return to the pitch until the last week of December.
