An operational failure at the Celulosa Arauco plant in the Constitución commune, Maule region, generated a series of bad odors and liquids, for which the Maule Prosecutor’s Office reported that it will open an investigation to investigate the emanations.
According to La Tercera, the situation was such that the residents of the sector themselves alerted the company, which assured that the security protocols were activated “quickly”, allowing the fault to be controlled.
After the decision to open an investigation to clarify the facts, the prosecutor Carmen Gloria Manríquez arranged for the Bidema specialized unit of the PDI to go to the scene to obtain evidence and determine if the emanations are harmful or not for the inhabitants of the area.
The situation caused the Maule Health Seremi to go to the sector. After his visit, the derivation of “a sanitary summary was declared, which indicates the prohibition of the operation of the productive process” of the plant. This, until “the demands that go in relation to the cleaning of the affected area” are resolved.
