During the start of the National State program, the journalist Matías del Río addressed the controversy surrounding the announcement of his departure from the debate program, where he showed his support for the television signal.
In this sense, the professional pointed out that “there was talk of the possibility of a threat to freedom of expression. This was what generated the passionate controversies that brought together thousands of Chileans.”
“The episode far exceeded the figure of a journalist. It also greatly exceeded the scope of very legitimate internal journalistic decisions, but which were those that were hastily denounced and read with distrust and fear,” he said.
“The important thing, in any case, went beyond these incidents because many people smelled in this past the stench of intolerance, the cancellation,” he added.
In this way, Del Río expressed his support for TVN, addressing the reactions of his departure. “Very exaggerated reaction? Possibly, I’m not the one to say it, but the facts are there,” he said, adding that “the only thing I know is that neither journalists nor politicians handle citizen reactions.”
“We must understand that journalism and journalists from TVN do not push the bandwagon of political bias,” he added.
“There is in this channel and in the National State team a robust tradition of objectivity and professionalism. We are completely committed to pluralism and we do not traffic in support or veiled attacks on the left, center or right,” he said.
