The San Jose Earthquakes announced this Monday that the Argentine Matias Almeydacoach of this team mls from October 2018, he will no longer sit on his bench.
The Spanish coach Alex Covelo will temporarily take care of training the team.
“I would like to thank the San Jose Earthquakes for this time together, thanks to the fans, managers, employees and John Fisher (managing partner of the team) for his trust,” wrote Almeida On twitter.
“Thanks to all the players for their dedication and thanks to the mls for giving me this wonderful opportunity,” he added.
For its part, the team Saint Joseph also had words of praise in the farewell of Almeida.
“I want to thank Matthias and to his team for their hard work and passion,” the team’s general manager, Chris Leitch.
“He has been a true professional and brought all his effort to every training session and game. Despite those efforts, we have not had the results that we and he wanted (…). There is still a lot of football to be played this season and we believe that we have a squad that can compete to be in the playoffs,” he added.
The Earthquakes occupy the last position of the Western Conference with only 3 points and they are the only team in the entire mls that still does not know the victory after 7 disputed days.
After his departure from the mlssome rumors place Almeida back in Liga Mx, especially after the Chivas from Guadalajaraa team that the Argentine directed from 2015 to 2018, fired his coach last week Marcelo Michel Leano.
