Shortly after 493 years of creation, Piura has stagnated and retraced several decades, according to the Piura Chamber of Commerce and Productionas well as the College of Engineers and Architects. They claim that it is urgent from priority works.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Piura, Mateo Gómez, stressed that Piura has backed down and the figures confirm it. In addition, he mentioned that there is a pending public infrastructure gap and there is a great concern for water security, among other issues.
“Unfortunately we have to say that Piura has backed up. If we look at the statistics of the main centers of economic studies such as IPE or incorde, Piura is in 16th place in the national competitiveness ranking of 24 regions, we are halfway down the table down, the first regions are those of the south,” said Gomez.
He stressed that Piura has retreated on issues of education, public health, transitability, access to water and sewerage.
“(The setback) has a lot to do with the latest efforts of the authorities that have not invested in the projects that could make economically start in Piura. When public investment is made, many times the territorial economic development is not taken into account, we content ourselves with works that will not have an impact for the future,” said Gomez.

The president of the Camco said that Piura urges water security, to encourage the law of agricultural creation so that the agro -export sector continues to develop, as well as a plan for the integral management of the Piura River.
In turn, the dean of the College of Engineers, Manuel Asmat, said that Piura “has been stagnant over time,”
“We have not had adequate planning for the growth of the city, it has grown messy, without a storm drain that allows us to face the phenomena that usually occur, I would say that we are several decades of delay,” he said.
Asmat emphasized that Piura is urgent about the rain drain, flood control, high complexity hospital. “We need to make a striking city, in addition to thinking first about health and prevention against the child, you have to think how to attract more tourism,” said Asmat.
The CIP dean said that comparison with other cities such as Arequipa, Piura has not advanced as he had to do. “There are other cities that have their much more advanced drainage projects and, in addition, the Piuranos are not enough united to press and demand the projects that correspond to us,” said Asmat.
And the dean of the College of Architects of Piura, Leopoldo Villacorta, said that Piura’s economic growth contradicts the stage of the city, as Piura has retreated more than 60 years.
“The figures indicated by economists are not properly expressed in cities. Public spaces appear totally obsolete and many of them non -existent, public recreation spaces do not exist,” he said.
