Matanzas presents the highest rate of dengue infestation in the last 25 years

Madrid Spain.- Matanzas has the highest rates of dengue infestation in the last quarter century, local radio station Radio 26 reported this weekend.

The four serotypes of the disease currently circulate in the province, in addition to COVID-19, which increases the risk and complexity of the infection, Radio 26 specified through Facebook.

According to statements by the deputy director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, Bertha María Bello Rodríguez, there is an increase in focality and a high risk of dengue transmission in all municipalities; as well as an increase in febrile cases.

The head recalled that it is a socially determined disease that requires actions from the Government, the community and from the individual; and she insisted that “without a mosquito there is no dengue”.

“It is necessary to manage the environmental situation in order to attend to the pits that discharge, and the leaks. Likewise, the work of communal communities in the sanitation of micro-dumps is essential, and the work of the community and the family in the prevention of the mosquito; aspects that still do not work well”, pointed.

At the beginning of July, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported that the country was on alert for dengue, and that in 2022 the highest number of outbreaks in the last 15 years has been registered.

At the end of July transmission was reported of dengue in 11 provinces, 23 municipalities and 33 health areas. Just over 5,000 people currently suffer from the disease, and the most affected territories are the provinces of Holguín, Las Tunas, Havana, Villa Clara, Camagüey, Matanzas, Pinar del Río and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
