Matagalpinos go out in procession shouting "Rolando, friend, the people are with you"

The Catholic parishioners of Ciudad Darío, in Matagalpa, went out in procession through the streets of that town in the center of the country with the Blessed Sacrament to express their support for Bishop Rolando Álvarez, who is being strongly besieged by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo .

«Monsignor Rolando Álvarez friend, the people of Ciudad Darío are with you. Church we are and will be in the face of all adversity. God can always do more”, reads the page of the local Catholic station “Santa Lucía”, which shared the images.

Priest Vicente Martínez, carrying the Blessed Sacrament, toured the city with hundreds of parishioners to pray and show his public support for Bishop Álvarez, against whom the regime has increased intimidation by closing all access to the Las Colinas de Managua parish where He is a refugee from the Ortega police siege.

“The Church does not keep silent about injustices and in the face of the persecution that the Nicaraguan Church is experiencing (…) pray for the Church in Nicaragua, especially for the end of the persecution against Monsignor Rolando José Álvarez Lagos (…) it also asks that it soon be restore bonds of peace in this suffering nation,” the Catholic station said on Facebook.

More criticism of Ortega

During the weekend, the persecution against the Church undertaken by the Managua regime has achieved the rejection of the episcopates of Costa Rica and Panama; as well as numerous Spanish-speaking Catholic priests and influencers.

«Hearing (Daniel) Ortega in Nicaragua saying that ‘our practice is Christian, socialist, supportive’, and seeing how easily he attacks and destroys supportive NGOs, while harassing priests and bishops, shocks and scares. The hypocrisy of the authoritarians has no limits,” Jesuit priest José María Tojeira, former rector of the Central American University (UCA) in El Salvador and director of the Human Rights Institute of the same alma mater, expressed from San Salvador via Twitter.
