Matagalpino Catholics fear that for repression against the Church they will punish even for receiving Communion

Faced with the “suspension” of diplomatic relations between the Nicaraguan regime and the Vatican, Catholic and Evangelical Matagalpinos believe that the Ortega Murillo dictatorship will intensify repression even more, especially against priests and parishioners.

Those consulted agreed that going to mass, receiving communion, confessing and even praying can be criminalized by dictators and their repressive staff, which has generated more fear and mistrust than ever before. Those who profess the Catholic faith said that they fully support Pope Francis in his positions against the Nicaraguan regime.

“They have been at war and are capable of that and more,” said one citizen, who is engaged in agricultural work and who asked to speak on condition of anonymity. «In the eighties the repression against parents was brutal and they want to do the same thing again and care more. They are demons unleashed a while ago », he accused.

“Dictatorship wants to banish the Church”

Bruno, a collaborator from a Matagalpina parish, opined that the government wants to banish the Church. «It is true, they are men, but they have dedicated their lives to study the scriptures and take care of the gospel, what about the others? Well, end them by killing some, imprisoning others, banishing more, “he criticized.

“Orteguismo wants to disappear the Catholic Church, but they have made a mistake there, they have spent thousands of years under persecution and they continue because it is God’s thing,” he warned.

For his part, a university professor and evangelical practitioner, expressed that the suspension of diplomatic relations means “plainly and simply that there are no diplomatic relations. The vulgar ones (rulers) can put as they want, but those relationships are broken, “he explained.

He considered that the Police officers are now capable “of doing whatever they want with the priests who are still here, the churches and so on, be careful and they end up turned into a barracks.”

«There are the bunch of Ortega guards, cowards, stuck in the episcopal curia. Who knows how much they have already stolen, what they have destroyed inside! In short, they just need to make it a crime to be a Christian, but not as they say they are”, he pointed out.

“Against Demons”

An elderly lady, a faithful visitor to her parish north of the city of Matagalpa, expressed concern about the future of the church, but recalled that praying with the heart is the perfect weapon against the demon she calls “red and black.” .

“We have to pray more, multiply the prayers and prayers for our church, the priests, for Monsignor Rolando (Álvarez), to protect them from the two-headed Satan,” he reflected.

A prominent Matagalpino athlete said for his part that “the dictatorship is so unbalanced that they are capable of turning the Matagalpa cathedral into a recreation center for its fans, Molagüina (a temple in the center of the city) as an asylum for delinquents and the San José church as a collection of coffee and cocoa. It seems like a joke, but they are capable of anything.

They call on the international community

A medical professional, she limited herself to asking the international community to be more forceful with the dictators and their circle of abusers. “I think it is time for the United Nations to make strong decisions against this regime that has kidnapped an entire country,” she stressed.

Last weekend, in a widely known interview, Pope Francis called the Nicaraguan government a Hitlerite dictatorship, praised the Bishop of Matagalpa and called dictator Daniel Ortega unbalanced, without mentioning him.

The statements of the Argentine pontiff were not pleasant for the dictatorship and days later, they decided to “suspend” diplomatic relations with the Holy See.
