According to the experts, the government denies that there is an increase in femicides and even talks about decreases every year. “The State usually hides the figures. They disguise femicides, they pass them off as homicides and thus the statistics decrease, but violence against women continues to increase”, they point out.
The defenders, who can only address the issue under anonymity for fear of reprisals from the dictatorship, say that by decreasing the figures they also hide the inefficient protection policies towards women that the government spokeswoman talks about so much. “From a woman with as much power as she (Rosario Murillo) has, one hopes that she will influence the reduction of sexist violence, but unfortunately that does not happen,” they criticized.
They pointed out that hiding or masking the femicide figures is “a criminal action.” “This shows that in Nicaragua, there is no rule of law, but a dictatorship that has dismantled the laws and only applies what benefits it, because we have also seen how serious cases of violence against women and girls are handled,” they said.

He condemned the government’s repressive measures within the judicial system against the defenders of the victims of femicide, if any dare to demand justice for women.
