Santo Domingo.-La General Directorate of Migration (DGM), in coordination with other state institutions, carried out a wide operation this Tuesday in the community of Mata Mosquito, in Friusa sector in the Bavarian tourist, La Altagracia (East) province, which included the destruction of dozens of improvised homes built with materials such as zinc and wood.
During the intervention, structures were irregularly raised on private land, which were occupied by people in non -regular immigration, mostly Haitian citizens.
The DGM reported that these constructions violated safety and urban planning standards, in addition to representing illegal land occupations.

According to a statement, more than 500 people were arrested during the operation and transferred to the Haina retention center in the San Cristóbal (southeast) province where the process of verification of immigration status and repatriation to Haitiin accordance with the provisions of the Dominican Migration Law.
The eviction was supported by the Special Unit of the National Police, as well as the Army of the Dominican Republic (ERD) and specialized tactical units, the statement details.

He indicated that these forces collaborated in the removal and demolition of structures, as part of a strategy to recover and protect areas vulnerable to irregular occupation.
Migration explained that to avoid new invasions, permanent surveillance has been established in the area, in charge of military and police personnel.
The DGM said the operation was developed respecting the international human rights protocols applicable to migratory processes.
