“Massive” releases reported at El Rodeo I prison

Alfredo Romero, director of the NGO Foro Penal, indicated that more than 30 people left Rodeo I. It was not specified if they were released from prison or if they received full freedom.


This Monday, February 23, releases were reported from the El Rodeo I prison. Alfredo Romero, director of the NGO Foro Penal, indicated that 30 people were released from the penitentiary center, amid demands from relatives for the release of all those deprived of liberty and after the approval of the Amnesty Law.

Romero made the announcement in xalong with a video in which relatives are seen receiving the recently released. The relatives maintained their demand that “all” those detained for political reasons be released.

At the moment, it has not been specified if these people were released from prison or if they received full freedom. According to the most recent report from the NGO Foro Penal dated February 23, at least 65 full releases have been verified specifically after the approval of the Amnesty Law. If counted since the announcement on January 8, the total number of people released from prison amounts to 464 people.

The organization warned that more than 600 political prisoners remain in detention centers. It is estimated that at least 400 of these detainees could be excluded from the benefits of the law due to the restrictions contemplated in the legal text.

Social communicator Seir Contreras also reported the release. “As we reported yesterday, the 11 Army Military Academy Cadets detained for playing “Call Of Duty” online have been released,” he wrote in X.

The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners celebrated the release of the people from Rodeo I. But it did not fail to emphasize that it is necessary for “everyone” to be released. He specified that there were 34 releases.
