Massive demonstrations took place this Friday throughout the country in repudiation of the assassination attempt against Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchnerwith a central act held in the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires where, in the presence of the members of the national cabinet, a call was made “for national unity, but not at any price.”

under the motto “With the flag to defend democracy” promoted by the Frente de Todos (FdT), tens of thousands of militants from political, social, trade union and human rights organizations came to the May Plaza after meeting from noon on Avenida de Mayo and 9 de Julio, in downtown Buenos Aires, on a day that was declared National holiday by President Alberto Fernandez.

“For several years, a tiny sector of the political leadership and its supporters’ media has been repeating a speech of hate, of denial of the other, of stigmatization, of criminalization of any popular leader or those related to Peronism, and even of any sympathizer” , the statement added, and pointed out that “we have all seen mobilizations where mortuary bags, coffins or guillotines were paraded through the most important squares of the Federal Capital.”

Also, he argued that “The Argentine people are moved, shocked by what happened, including millions who do not sympathize with Cristina or with Peronism” and stressed that “it is in honor of all our compatriots that we make this call for national unity, but not at any price: hate outside.”

The columns of protesters, who began to loosen up after 6 pm, were also located on Avenida de Mayo and on the South and North diagonals, which lead to the Plaza.

On a stage set up in front of the Casa Rosada, Darín read the document accompanied by representatives of trade union, social, business and human rights sectors who minutes before had held a meeting with President Alberto Fernández at the Government House.

In the Plaza there were columns of the Central of Argentine Workers (CTA)the State Workers Association (ATE), the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP), La Cámpora, Movimiento Evita, Barrios de Pie, the Autonomous CTA, La Dignidad, the Solidarity Party, Nuevo Encuentro, the Front Popular Darío Santillán (FPDS), the Federation of Land and Housing (FTV) and the Transversal Front.

Also present were the MTD Aníbal Verón, the National Confederation of Worker Cooperatives (CNCT), the Martín Fierro National Current, the Octobers Movement, the Confederation of University Workers and Women of the Evita Movement.

In addition, after convening at the intersection of 9 de Julio and Belgrano, demonstrators from the Buenos Aires Judiciary, the Piquetero Party, the Communist Party, the Agustín Tosco Territorial Movement, the Buenos Aires Press Union (SiPreBA), La Garganta Poderosa, La Bancaria and the Union of Mechanics, Allied Automotive Transport (Smata) and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Sons and the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights (Apdh), among others.

Also present were the Legal and Technical Secretary of the Presidency, Vilma Ibarra; the presidential adviser and Secretary of Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Innovation of the Ministry of the Environment, Cecilia Nicolini; the Secretary for Economic Relations of the Foreign Ministry, Cecilia Todesca Bocco; the presidential spokesperson, Gabriela Cerruti and the national deputy, Victoria Tolosa Paz, among others.

The Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillofor his part, arrived accompanied by officials from his cabinet and mayors of that district, after meeting in a pizzeria on the corner of 9 de Julio and Belgrano avenues before heading to the Government House.

In turn, Minister Ferraresi together with the head of Pami, Luana Volnovich and the mayor of Quilmes, Mayra Mendoza, led a column of protesters who mobilized from that municipality.

The demonstrators sang the Peronist march and slogans such as: “Always with Cristina”, “Never Again”, “They are responsible for the hatred they generate”, “Democracy is ours and it defends itself” and “We do not give up here” were read on the posters. no one”.

Meanwhile, a Peronist Encounter poster crossed the Plaza with the colors of the flag and relevant figures of Argentine politics and culture such as José San Martín, Pope Francis, Eva Perón, Juan Perón, Manuel Belgrano, Felipe Vallese, the priest Carlos Mugica, Diego Maradona, Estela Carlotto, Néstor Kirchner, Cristina Kirchner, Juana Azurduy, José Rucci and Indio Solari, as well as an image of the Malvinas Islands.

For their part, protesters who arrived at the Plaza from noon on the subway lines that lead to the area sang the Peronist march in the cars, as on Line A and B.

The Justicialista Party called for marches to the Plaza de Mayo and in the squares throughout the country, “in solidarity with Cristina and in defense of life and democracy”, while from the Renovador Front, the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, called from his Twitter social network account to march from 4:00 p.m. “in defense of democracy.”
