Massification of gas and promotion of investments on the second day of the Business Congress of Central Peru

Massification of gas and promotion of investments on the second day of the Business Congress of Central Peru

Today the VIII Business Congress of Central Peru ends, with presentations focused on attracting foreign investment, the massification of gas, sustainable development and promoting investments in the central macro-region, in addition to business innovation for the Junín region.

The morning of work was started by Gisella Abarca López, Promperú Project Promotion executive, who highlighted the country’s growth, which reached 3.5% in 2025 alone and 4.2% (on average) in the last 20 years. Well above the region.

“We are the second country with the best risk at the regional level only below Chile. This demonstrates the ability to face our debts and how the agencies rate us for capital loans, in addition to being able to identify ourselves as a potential investment destination,” indicated Abarca López.

The Promperú executive also said that a historical milestone for our country is marked by a minimum inflation rate that is the lowest in the region (1.1%).

He stressed that Peru is a preferred destination for foreign investment in the region, the fourth country with the highest budget injection with 121 billion in the period from 2023 to 2024, which has generated 267 thousand jobs.

Regarding the central macro-region, it was reported that until September of this year, products worth 19.4 billion dollars were exported and 23.3 billion last year. Leading traditional exports such as mining and the agricultural sector.

Demand needs to be created

Later, the director of Natural Gas Management of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), Luis Ángel Carbajal Calderón, pointed out that a demand for gas must be created in the macro-region and consumption stimulated so that the gas arrives from a branch in Ayacucho.

Fred Contreras Santos, member of the Junín College of Engineers and partner of the Huancayo Chamber of Commerce. He pointed out that the viability of gas depends on supply “If no one creates a need, we are not going to achieve anything,” he stated.

He recalled that the gas massification project for Junín was born 20 years ago, when Manuel Duarte was regional president.

“Huancavelica, which only started the process in 2012, is already ahead of us. The problems (for Junín) were that Doe Run and Cemento Andino backed out, even though they previously said that they planned to use it,” he remembered. For this reason, he highlighted the importance of creating demand since, in homes alone, 110 thousand gas connections would be needed to be highly profitable and there must be a requirement from the industry.
