The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, held a meeting at the Palacio de Hacienda with the leaders of the main crypto companies and technology firms, prior to the Latin American Bitcoin and Blockchain conference (Labitconf) that will take place between Thursday and Saturday in the City of Buenos Aires.
At the meeting they were Agustín Ferrari, from Globant; Leandro Elduayen, from Koibanx; Diego Gutierrez Zaldivar, from RSK; Tristan Thomas of Alphapoint; Federico Polack, from BitGet; Hernán Ball, from Prosegur; Juan Pablo Fridenberg, of Lemon; Eduardo Novillo Astrada, from Agrotoken; and Rodolfo Andragnes, from Labitconf.
They also participated Martin Fernandez, from Sensei Node; Alena Afanaseva, from BeInCrypto; Jimena Vallone, from NGO Bitcoin Argentina; Agustina Comelli, from Crypton Capital Fund; Carlos Maslatón and Federico Murrone, from Lirium; Mariano Di Pietrantonio, from MakerDAO; Manuel Beaudroit, from Belo; Carlos De Venezia, from Dift.co/Labitconf; Mariano Biocca, from the Fintech Chamber; and Philip Karageorgevitch of JAN3.
Massa was accompanied by the Secretary of Knowledge Economy, Ariel Sujarchuk.
During the meeting, the minister told the leaders of the main crypto companies: “I come to learn and understand this world to which we will inevitably have to adapt at some point”.
“Argentina has regional eligibility in this scheme and we can take it to a global scale. We have to see how to make this system viable because Argentina can occupy a place of relevance in the coming years in terms of knowledge,” Massa said, after which he told them: ” you are protagonists of this global technological revolution.
“We have to put intelligence together to find ways for the State to make possible the work in this matter to position Argentina as one of the leaders on a global scale. If we had free circulation of crypto, but within the Argentine legal and tax regime, there would be no problems because reserves would not be affected,” he added.
Finally, he stressed that “blockchains serve the process of modernizing the State.”
Sources from the Ministry of Economy specified that during the meeting the attendees described to Minister Massa the reality of the Argentine, regional and global crypto scenario, and measured the relevance of our country in the global context.
This market is currently facing serious turbulence due to the crash of Bitcoin and the rest of the cryptos after Binance confirmed that it will not move forward in its decision to acquire one of its main competitors, the FTX exchange platform, which entered into crisis after massive user withdrawals.
Bitcoin (BTC) fell below US$16,000, the lowest level since November 2020, accumulating a drop of more than 20% in the last 48 hours, a situation similar to that faced by the rest of the currencies. such as Ether, Solana, Polkadot, Cardano and Avalanche, among others.
