The year 2025 will be essential for citizens of the Great Saint Dominic and Santiago regarding transportation improvement with the implementation of the integrated system that includes cable carshe Metropolitan Traina tram and the Monorail.
Jahel Isadirector of the Trust for the Development of the System of Mass Transportation of the Dominican Republic (Fitram) stated that President Luis Abinader is very committed to achieving an integrated transportation system, as is Minister José Ignacio Paliza.
“Our focus on Fitram is the user. We are thinking about the user, who is using public transportation with a lack and with a need that we have to satisfy as a Government,” he said.
The works
Among the projects that would be completed and advanced in 2025 are the Santiagothe Cable Car Saint Dominic West, the Tram for Independence and the Metropolitan Train that would connect entirely from line 2-C of the Metro to the Las Américas International Airport.
The latter will be worked on in several stages, the first from the Olympic Center to Charles de Gaulle Avenue and then from Charles de Gaulle to the Airport, impacting the main areas with the highest concentration of people and later from the Olympic Center to Pintura, all on February 27.
In the initial project, an investment of about 2,000 million dollars was estimated, of which 800 millioncame from the public sector and the rest from the private sector, which remain. In civil works alone, an investment of more than 500 million dollars is estimated.

“We know what the market is like and based on that, at the beginning of the first quarter, if not before the end of the year, but we are going to soon announce the mechanism under which we are going to do that research, that market survey that we allow the interest and linking of international private banks in this project, which is why we are seeing success stories such as line 6 in Sao Paulo and the Mayan Train in Mexico,” Isa said.
In addition to the Train, the authorities soon plan to begin the construction of the cable car that will connect kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway to the port of Haina Oriental, which would connect more than 400,000 users with the Metro at kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway.
“I am fully prepared to face this challenge of designing an alliance that is healthy from the point of view of financial structuring, that is healthy from the legal point of view and that does not compromise the Dominican State in the medium and long term with a commitment that does not may face in the future.
The integrated transportation system project also contemplates the construction of a tram that will begin at kilometer 12 of Independence and continue the entire journey west to Winston Churchill Avenue where it will rise to connect with line 2 of the Metro at the Ulises Francisco Espaillat station.
Other works that will have a great impact on the mobility of citizens starting next year will be the Monorail of Santiago that of the 14 kilometer extension, 9 have already been completed, which will allow a greater flow of passengers along with the Cable Car that is in operation.
