Starting tomorrow, a contingent of peasants, self-proclaimed “homeless” and indigenous will arrive in Asunción to carry out various demonstrations. It is estimated that between 5,000 and 7,000 people will be mobilized.
Jorge Galeano, leader of the National Intersectoral Coordinator (CNI), in an interview with La Unión announced that as of Monday, March 21, mobilizations will begin in the capital city with the purpose of making a series of demands known to the government.
He indicated that the deepening of the economic, political, environmental and social crisis today generates concern in the sector he represents, to which are added other problems that the country is suffering.
Among the demands are the request for the repeal of the law that criminalizes the invasion of land, the recovery of ill-gotten land, as well as assistance to the field in the face of the pronounced drought that the country is suffering.
Members of the National Peasant Federation (FNC), the United National Organizations Without Land and Housing (ONU-STV) and the Indigenous and Popular Peasant Articulation (ACIP) will also be part of this call.
Galeano announced that they will deliver an agricultural insurance project to the National Congress, which aims to provide economic aid to farmers in the event of certain phenomena such as droughts, frosts, hailstorms, etc.
The leader did not know how long they will be in the capital, since they hope to stay until the government attends to their demands.
