MAS: Venezuela can defeat authoritarianism through electoral means as Brazil did

The national vice president of MAS considers that given the continuation of the rains, the national government must declare an emergency throughout the national territory. “It is essential to have prevention and follow-up measures in sectors where loss of human life may occur”

The national vice president of the Movement for Socialism (PLUS), María Verdeal, congratulated President-elect Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva on Monday, October 31, saluted the alternation in power and highlighted the importance of voting. “A message that coincides with what we are looking for in Venezuela when she spoke of rescuing democracy,” she said.

For Verdeal, in Venezuela it is possible “to achieve the change of the authoritarian government that we have through the exercise of suffrage.”

The national vice president of the Movement for Socialism hopes that in Venezuela and throughout Latin America “these changes continue to take place in peace and in a democratic manner.”

María Verdeal also referred to the closure of radio stations by National Telecommunications Commission of Venezuela (Conatel) and maintains that it is a violation of the right to information, free press and the right to work. «This violates the freedom of information and the press, in addition to violating the freedom of professional practice of those who are in these stations, technicians, journalists and owners of the stations, “he said.

In the same way, Verdeal argued that this is “an irregular, arbitrary and authoritarian exercise by State agencies that only lead to self-censorship that other media may have for fear of similar situations.”

rain emergency

The national vice president of MAS considers that given the continuation of the rains, the national government must declare an emergency throughout the national territory. “It is essential to have prevention and follow-up measures in sectors where loss of human life may occur.”

In his opinion, on the subject of the rains, two situations are mixed: “The irresponsibility on the part of the national government in not regulating and controlling construction in vulnerable areas and, on the other hand, the precarious situation of the citizens who, for one reason or another, reason they build in an area that is not allowed or that may be at risk due to the flooding of rivers or streams.
