The national vice president of the MAS, María Verdeal, highlighted the reunion of families with the young people released after the protests of July 28, but stressed that the releases are insufficient, in addition, she regretted the death of detainees in State custody
The national vice president of the Movement towards Socialism (FURTHER), María Verdeal, celebrated the reunion of families with the release of several of the young people detained after the electoral process. However, he described the 225 alternative measures announced by Attorney General Tarek William Saab as insufficient, ensuring that these people should never have been imprisoned.
«According to the Public Ministry, the innocent would be released, but if they are free of guilt, they should never have been detained because the presumption of innocence is a legal and universal principle enshrined in our current legislation.»he commented.
Verdeal advocated a general amnesty for all political prisoners as a fundamental measure for national reconciliation, and rejected the idea of changing prison to a regime of presentation or another measure determined by the court.

He warned that a significant group of those released had to be immediately transferred to receive medical and psychological treatment due to their serious emotional situation.
«If they are free of guilt, they should never have been detained, the presumption of innocence is a universal principle enshrined in our legislation.»he stated.
He recalled that similar pacification processes occurred during the mandates of former President Rafael Caldera, when members of guerrilla groups were released, who subsequently participated in the political life of the country, «The same thing happened in the second period, when many of those who today lead the government of President Nicolás Maduro benefited from this measure of grace.»he added.
Complaints about arbitrary detentions
Verdeal criticized the arbitrary arrests that continue to occur in Venezuela, including for writing a message or for participating in any of the demonstrations, along with the more than 60 detained teenagers who should be in the classrooms and not behind bars.
The national vice president of the MAS made an urgent call so that, ahead of the Christmas festivities, the government allows the release of political prisoners so that they can spend this time with their families.
«It is unfortunate that every year we have to ask as a gift, through a press conference, for the release of political prisoners so that they can be with their family during the Christmas holidays.», he pointed out.
Finally, Verdeal applauded the co-government elections at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), despite the inconveniences that occurred during the day. He highlighted these elections as a democratic celebration framed within the country’s constitutional principles.
