Gerardo Martino, Inter Miami coach said on Friday that Lionel Messi “is available” for this Saturday’s MLS match against the Philadelphia Union and, therefore, can return to competition after being out for two months due to an ankle injury.
“He’s fine now, he returned to training yesterday. He’s scheduled for tomorrow’s match. After training we’ll define the strategy with him, but he’s available,” he said. Martino at the pre-match press conference at Chase Stadium.

“We have the best player in the world back in the team, who was on a positive streak, so we are all happy about that situation,” Martino added.
Messi has not competed since July 14, when he injured his right ankle in the Copa América final won by Argentina against Colombia.
The forgotten throat infection
The Argentine striker has returned to training normally this week, except for one day when he rested due to a throat infection.
“The condition he was in that prevented him from training was combined with the recovery of his ankle, but he had been training quite well, we always thought that Philadelphia was the game to return to. Luckily that was only one day, yesterday he trained normally. We just have to take into account what happened to him to define the strategy,” said Martino.
