Argentine Gerardo Martino, coach of Inter Miami, assured that the signing of Brazilian Neymar Junior for his team is “impossible” right now due to how the MLS salary rules are, when asked if he would like to work with the former Barcelona player again. .

“I arrived at Barcelona at the same time as Ney, it was a good year, for me being able to coach players of such hierarchy is always special. But there is nothing more to it than that,” said Martino at the press conference prior to the ‘ playoffs’ against Atlanta United.

“With Leo (Messi) and the rest of the guys already coming, what I can’t imagine is, if the league doesn’t make the salary issue more flexible, how it would go ahead. I don’t know what the implementation would be like. If there is something that has the MLS, is that the rules are strict. Based on these bases, today this is impossible,” he concluded.

Inter Miami will face the second game of the MLS playoff first round series this Saturday, in the best of three games.

Martino stressed that, at this point in the season, it is not the time to speculate on the lineup.

“When we went last time we had no problems with the synthetic grass. We have played 35 games in the regular season, we are four away from achieving our goal, and all four are played week by week. This is not the time to have any type of speculation,” he stressed.

And he promised that his club’s offensive mentality will not change.

“It is very difficult when a team has played an entire season with a common search to change for a single game. Having the advantage of having won the first game, if we have the possibility of winning tomorrow we would be much calmer,” he said.

Martino will return to Atlanta, a club that the Argentine coached from 2016 to 2018 and with which he was an MLS champion.

“Atlanta will always be a very special place for me, returning always brings me joy. My recognition, my respect and gratitude for Atlanta will be permanent,” he said.
