The yesUndersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry, Gustavo Martínez Pandiani, assured this Wednesday that the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), which will take place next week in Argentina, will aim at “unity in the diversity” among member countries, and confirm the region as a “zone of peace”.
The diplomat, national coordinator of Celac, spoke on Télam Radio and added that during the summit They will advance in the work on respect for “differences, with the aim of finding common ground”.
In this sense, he argued that the discussions will aim at “issues that unite” the different nations, but “always respecting the different particularities that exist in each of the countries.”
He argued that among the objectives of the appointment scheduled for next Tuesday in the City of Buenos Airesthere will be the idea of ”continuing to strengthen Celac as a coordination and political agreement mechanism.”
“It has worked very well, the presidency of President (Alberto) Fernández It has given it greater dynamism, a greater presence outside the region itself, participating in summits such as the G7, the G20, taking the voice of Latin America and the Caribbean”, he asserted about the pro tempore presidency of Celac held by Argentina .
On the occasion, the diplomat pointed out, Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero will carry out a “balance sheet” where he will express “in great detail the proposed objectives and the objectives achieved.”
On the other hand, Martínez Pandiani pointed out that they will try to continue advancing to move from “a Celac as a mere mechanism for consultation between the Presidents, to a Celac as an integration system that reaches much more to societies, to ordinary people”.
Next Tuesday the VII Summit of Heads of State and Government of Celac begins in Buenos Aires, with the participation of 33 countries of the region.
