On February 23, the Second Administrative Electoral Judge had ordered the lifting of Martinelli’s jurisdiction.
The decision to lift former President of the Republic Ricardo Martinelli from electoral criminal jurisdiction was revoked this afternoon by the Electoral Court.
The former president continues to maintain criminal jurisdiction, which means that he cannot be tried.
“The Magistrates of the Electoral Court, administering justice on behalf of the Republic and by authority of the Law, REVOKE in all its parts, Resolution 2-2022 of February 23, 2022, issued by the Second Administrative Judge”, highlights the ruling of the Court.
On February 23, the Second Administrative Electoral Judge had ordered the lifting of Martinelli’s jurisdiction.
The former president assured that with this ruling “justice has prevailed” and “for the first time legal certainty arrives in Panama” which will guarantee that more investors come to the country, there is more work and that the State collects more taxes.
Alma Cortés, part of Martinelli’s legal team, assured that the former president could not be prosecuted for any other case.
