A sentence of 108 months and 135 months in prison was requested by the New York prosecutor’s office for the brothers. Richard Albert Y Luis Enrique Martinelli Linaresconfessed to the crime of money laundering for $28 million dollars received from the Brazilian company Odebrechtfor the benefit of a close relative and high official of the Panamanian government in the period 2009-2014.

In the document sent to Judge Raymond J. Deariethe prosecution opposes the claim of the defense of the Martinelli Linares brothers, who requested their release, considering that the 23 months that their clients have been in preventive detention is the time that would correspond to them, for having pleaded guilty.

However, the prosecution argued that the 23 months of preventive detention are not enough, since their participation was “essential for the commission of this crime and they maintained criminal, systematic and strategic conduct for nearly six years.”
