The former president Martin Vizcarradisqualified by Congress from running in 2026, spoke out after learning that he will continue to face trial for collecting million-dollar bribes when he was regional governor of Moquegua (2011-2014).
Yesterday, the Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court rejected the cassation filed by the former president, an appeal with which he intended to annul his process.
The trial currently facing the former president is for the crime of passive bribery (receiving bribes). However, prosecutor Germán Juárez filed another accusation for collusion in the same case that is in the control phase.
Supreme Judge César San Martín, head of the court, alleged that the discussion to determine whether the accusation against the accused, for bribery and collusion, would be divided into two trials had already been carried out in the prosecution control and it was determined that it would be so.
“The decision of the Supreme Court on the appeal, which sought to correct various procedural defects and serious violations in my process, is a decision that I abide by, but that does not stop me or bend me,” the former ruler published on his X account.
My commitment to the truth remains strong!

Vizcarra Cornejo pointed out that “there is and will be no evidence to support the accusation against me” despite the fact that there are statements from effective collaborators and witnesses who corroborated that the former head of state received cash.
On the one hand, the former head of state is accused of having received S/1 million from the Obrainsa company in exchange for granting him the Lomas de Ilo irrigation project; and S/1.3 million from ICGGSA for it to be awarded the construction of the Moquegua Hospital.
In this way, the founder of the Peru Primero party only has to wait for the ruling of the Fourth Collegiate Criminal Court. The Prosecutor’s Office requests that he be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
