The Congress of the Republic published the resolution that formalizes the second disqualification to hold public office approved against the former President of the Republic, Martin Vizcarra.
The legislative resolution 016-2021-2022-CR published this May 14 in the bulletin of legal norms of El Peruano indicates that the disqualification was approved in respect of the procedure established in article 100 of the Constitution and subparagraph i) of article 89 of the Regulations of Congress.
On Wednesday, May 11, the plenary approved the recommendation approved by the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations that proposed to disqualify Vizcarra Cornejo due to the complaint filed by former Fujimori congresswoman Yeni Vilcatoma for having participated in the Obrainsa company while he was Minister of Transport and Communications.
The conclusion of the report indicates that there are not sufficient elements to demonstrate that the former president carried out acts in favor of the company when he held the position of minister, for which he proposes a disqualification of only five years and not the ten that the accusation originally requested.
The plenary approved this conclusion with 67 votes in favor, 5 against and 15 abstentions after Martín Vizcarra exercised his right to defense.
This is the second disqualification approved against the former president, after the first was confirmed in April 2021, when the previous Parliament approved with 86 votes in favor, zero against and zero abstentions, the disqualification for ten years for having been inoculated with doses from the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm irregularly.
