Former President Martín Vizcarra was consulted about the investigations he is currently facing and the start of his oral trial for the Lomas de Ilo case and the Moquegua hospital. In this regard, the former president indicated that if he is convicted by the Judiciary, he would face the penalty and I would not seek to evade justice alluding to the decisions other former heads of state have taken when being investigated.
“I will always accept what justice says. I will never leave my country, I will not flee, I will not go to an embassy, I will not shoot myself in the head,” Vizcarra said during a interview on the Ouke podcast. Furthermore, he reiterated that he would face the decision of the Judiciary, despite the fact that he considers himself innocent.

Oral trial for the Lomas de Ilo case and the Moquegua hospital
The oral trial against former president Martín Vizcarra focuses on accusations of allegedly having received bribes in the amount of 2.3 million soles to benefit tenders related to the Lomas de Ilo and Moquegua Hospital projects during his management as regional president, between 2011 and 2014.
During the hearing, the Ad Hoc Prosecutor’s Office requested civil compensation of more than 4 million soles in favor of the State, due to the alleged acts of corruption. While the Prosecutor’s Office has requested a sentence of 15 years in effective prison: 6 years for the Lomas de Ilo case and 9 years for the Moquegua Hospital.
In addition, his disqualification from holding public office for 6 years was requested, adding to the previous disqualifications imposed by Congress. However, Martín Vizcarra rejects the accusations and expressed his disagreement with an eventual early sentence for corruption.
