The Third National Criminal Appeals Chamber of the Judiciary has scheduled for next Wednesday, January 21, at 9:00 am, the virtual hearing in which the suspension of the provisional execution of his conviction of the former president will be debated. Martin Vizcarra Cornejo.
The former president was sentenced on November 26, 2025 for the crime of passive bribery to the detriment of the State, for alleged irregularities and collection of bribes during his management as regional governor of Moquegua in the Hospital de Moquegua and Lomas de Ilo works.
After the conviction, Vizcarra’s technical defense presented a request seeking that the execution of the sentence be suspended while the appeal is resolved.
The court – made up of senior judges Enríquez Sumerinde, Magallanes Rodríguez and Guillén Ledesma – decided to proceed with the procedure and summon the parties involved. The session will be virtual.
Currently, the former head of state is being held in the Barbadillo de Ate prison with a 14-year prison sentence against him for the crime of bribery, as determined by the Judiciary approximately a month ago.
