It is urgent to create a new institution to preserve water in the country, given the deficiencies of the Institute of National Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan), said today the presidential candidate for the Popular Party (PP), Martín Torrijos Espino.
“We must build a future in which every Panamanian has access to clean and safe water, thus protecting our environment, and guaranteeing a better quality of life for all,” said the political leader.
In this context, the former President of the Republic stressed that the georadar is required to locate the underground water deposits and how to use that water resource, which will help to solve the problem of scarcity in the country in a short term.
“To address this situation, a contract must be carried out urgently. Panamanians are desperate; It doesn’t matter what this man says or not. [José Gabriel Carrizo]; they are not doing anything”, stressed Torrijos Espino.
Six months of severe drought and another six of intense rain are forecast, and then there will be a discussion about whether the Panama Canal or IDAAN are responsible.
The El Niño phenomenon lurks, for which it is necessary to prepare, since farmers will suffer the consequences in their crops and the generation of electrical energy will be affected, warned the presidential candidate.
