Martín Torrijos commits to solving the country’s problems in three years and will submit his management to Popular Consultation

The presidential candidate of the Popular Party (PP), Martín Torrijos Espino, promised to solve the country’s problems in three years, and that in a popular consultation, it will be the people who define in a popular consultation whether he has fulfilled his campaign promises.

“I am so sure that what I am proposing is so viable that I want to seal before you and before the four million Panamanians, the following: at the end of the third year of the presidential term, I am going to carry out a popular consultation so that you can be the Let them judge whether or not I have fulfilled my promises; and that consultation for me will be sacred and binding.”

He added that this means that, if the Panamanian people believe that he has not complied, he will immediately propose that the constitutional reform that he will promote includes the revocation of his mandate with immediate effect, because “it is time for the candidates to stop lie.”

In a conversation with representatives of popular organizations and organized civil society, Torrijos Espino pointed out that he did not call them to listen to new diagnoses or new proposals, but to formalize before them a very serious commitment. I come, as the son of Omar Torrijos, as a political leader identified with the needs of the people, to tell the nation that our government will not be about persecution or revenge, our government will be aimed at reunifying and rebuilding the country,” he stressed.

The former president warned that the country is deeply divided, and the formation of the next National Assembly (AN) will confirm this, consequently, a government with leadership is required, but without authoritarianism or arrogance; with the ability to summon consensus, but without shying away from decisions no matter how difficult they may be.

“We will only get out of the quagmire in which we find ourselves if we are able to abandon inflexible or messianic attitudes; If we are able to unite we will achieve it; because we already did it before,” he noted.

Torrijos Espino recalled that at great political cost to him, he gave life to the disability, old age and death program of the Social Security Fund (CSS); He also did it, when despite some disbelievers, he submitted the expansion of the Canal to a referendum, and having gone through difficult situations, he knows that problems are not solved either with easy formulas or by kicking the ball so that someone else can solve it.

“There are only 13 days left; I know that Panamanians will not be fooled, that they will know how to distinguish between crazy promises and our commitment to make a safe change and unite the nation; “These electoral inventions with unrealizable solutions do not solve anything and are fantasies that disrespect the people themselves,” said Torrijos Espino.

He stated that some believe that the needs of the people are going to lead them to believe in unsupported proposals, so between now and the end of the campaign, electricity will no longer cost five dollars, but will be free; Or, there will no longer be 500 thousand jobs, but one million, although we will have to look among Colombian and Costa Rican neighbors to fill them.

“From now until the end of the campaign there will no longer be four days of work and three of rest, but two of work and five of rest; From now until the end of the campaign we are going to have so much chen chen that we are not going to know what to do with it. “You’re not going to find me at that festival,” he insisted.

In that sense, he reiterated that what he has proposed he knows can be done, and he is sure that his proposals are so viable, that he seals before those present and the four million Panamanians that, “at the end of the third year of the presidential term, I am going to carry out a popular consultation so that you can judge whether or not I have fulfilled my promises”; and that consultation for him will be sacred and binding.

“This means that if the Panamanian people believe that I have not complied, I will immediately propose that within the constitutional reform that I am going to promote, I will include the revocation of my mandate with immediate effect. It is time for candidates to stop lying”; she pointed out.
