The Minister of Economy, Martin Guzmanheld a meeting this Tuesday at the Palacio de Hacienda with the Italian ambassador, Fabrizio Lucentiniwith whom he discussed the global economic situation and the strengthening of ties between the two countries.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary for International Economic and Financial Affairs, Maia Colodenco; and the Economic Counselor of Italy, Marco Leoneaccording to the Ministry of Economy.
The deepening of economic ties between the two countries It is an objective shared by the governments of both Argentina and Italy.
At the end of April, the chancellor Santiago Cafiero met in Rome with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic, Luigi Di Maio, in the framework of his visit to that country to inaugurate the Argentine pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
During that meeting, it was agreed to advance in ministerial tables between the foreign ministries and the portfolios of Agroindustry and Productive Development of the two countries to “consolidate Argentina as a stable supplier of food and energy to Italy,” said Cafiero.
Among the proposals, the landing of the Italian energy giant ENI (Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi) -a public Italian energy company created in 1953 and which in 2021 had a turnover of more than 45,000 million euros worldwide- in the Malvinas Basin, stands out. about 100 km from the coast in an area of 4,418 km2 in the Argentine Sea (located between Tierra del Fuego and the Malvinas Islands).

Added to this is the possibility of the company also investing in the Vaca Muerta sitegiven that ENI operates in various productive sectors such as oil, natural gas, electricity generation, engineering, construction and the petrochemical industry.
Italy is currently the third European trading partner of Argentina and the fifteenth foreign investor in the country, with more than 250 companies that employ more than 50 thousand workers throughout the national territory.
