Marseille could barely draw 1-1 on their visit to Brest, this Sunday at the close of matchday 2 of the French Ligue 1, despite the debut of its new Chilean star, Alexis Sánchez.
After thrashing Reims 4-1 on Matchday 1, Marseille seemed on the right track to a new victory by taking the lead in the 38th minute through the Portuguese Nuno Tavares, but the Bretons equalized in the 61st with a goal from Pierre Lees-Melou.
Alexis Sánchez (33 years old), hired this week and presented as Olympique’s great hope to make the big leap, he came into play at half-time, but could not score in the second half.
He starred in some quality gestures, but without becoming decisive or generating great danger.
For the last twenty minutes, Marseille brought in Jordan Veretout and Dimitri Payet, who were also unable to propel their team to victory.
Jonathan Clauss, with a good chance in minute 86, is the one who came closest to giving Marseille the victory in the final straight, but finally there was distribution of points.
In the table, Marseille, runner-up last season, is already two points behind the leader and great favorite, Paris Saint-Germain, who on Saturday thrashed Montpellier 5-2, in a match where the Brazilian Neymar shone with a ‘double’.
Brest, meanwhile, adds its first point of the season.
PSG is the only team to have won in the first two matchdays of this Ligue 1. With 4 points, in addition to Marseille, there are Lille, Toulouse, Monaco and Lens.
