For years throughout the country you can hear the phrase that became famous “Disaster ko Marito” alluding to the ineptitude of a president who only serves to get on a combat tank to appear and drive little trains.
However, in the last two weeks situations have developed that have managed to raise his image and allow him to position himself despite the fact that it is already the last quarter of his term.
QUALIFICATION
The good news began to come last week when Moody’s, one of the three most important risk rating agencies in the world, announced its decision to raise the country’s economic outlook from Stable to Positive.
This fact represents an important step for Paraguay, since it has been one of the few countries in the region that has managed to raise its outlook and maintain its rating in an international and national context of external shocks.
This important step is based on the institutional strength and governance that Paraguay is gaining and that are backed by the set of laws that are being promoted by the National Government as part of the State Reform Agenda, some of which They have already been approved in recent years and others are pending approval in the National Congress.
Paraguay has managed to maintain its credit rating with rating agencies Moody’s, Fitch and Standard & Poor’s, despite the cases of corruption it has endured and the global uncertainty.
PASSED EXAM
Another point that deserves to be on the table is the approval of the mutual evaluation of the Financial Action Group of Latin America (Gafilat), which prevents the country from entering the gray list and remains well positioned in the international community.
The message was given precisely by Abdo, for whom this reflects the three years of efficient fight against organized crime and that is reflected in this approval that Paraguay obtained today.
SIGNIFICANTLY CORRUPT
Despite not being due to Abdo, his duty is to fight and enforce justice so that everything is clarified and the name of Paraguay is not tarnished.
Weeks ago, the United States Embassy in Paraguay announced the public designation of former President Horacio Cartes and his family as “significantly corrupt”, based on the former president’s participation in “significant” acts of corruption.
As well as obstructing a major international investigation into transnational crime to protect himself and his criminal associate from possible prosecution and political harm.
