SLP, Mexico.- The popular Cuban actor Mario Limonta88 years old, was admitted to intensive care after undergoing surgery that concluded with favorable results.
As reported to the media CubaActors Ariel Ordaz Zayas, nephew of the artist, Limonta was taken to the therapy room early this Thursday due to “hospital protocols”, although his condition is stable. So far, no further details of the operation have been revealed nor has the hospital where the actor is located been revealed.
The renowned Cuban artist and announcer who will turn 89 on January 19, began his career as a radio speaker in his native province, Guantánamo, and then entered the dramatic spaces of the Cuban National Circuit, currently Radio Rebelde. His film debut came from the hand of director José Massi in 1964, with the film The decisionmarking the beginning of a successful career on the big screen.
Over the years, Limonta has participated in notable film productions, including classics such as In a certain way (1974), The Brigadier (1977), Portrait of Teresa (1979), Honey for Oshún (2001), The horn of plenty (2009) and The broken gods (2008), among others.
However, it is on television where the actor is remembered with special affection. His interpretation of Sergeant Arencibia in the humorous “San Nicolás del Peladero” made him an icon on the island. The impulsive and cheerful rural guard always managed to make the audience laugh. Added to this character are dozens of roles in soap operas, including If you could love me, Oh, Havana and The orphans of the Obra Pía.
2016 National Humor Award, Mario Limonta has also left a mark on the radio with the character “Sandalio el vola’o”, from the comedy program Aftermeal Joysone of the most popular radio spaces in Cuba and which he shared for years with his wife, actress Aurora Basnuevo.
Mario Limonta’s life was intertwined with “la mulatísima” for more than 60 years. They met on the program “The Supreme Court of Art”, by José Antonio Alonso, and married in 1960. Their union lasted until death of Basnuevo on September 26, 2022.
