President Mario Abdo Benítez considered the fact that the Chamber of Deputies approved a law to reject non-reimbursable cooperation from the European Union for education as a lack of maturity and even irresponsibility.
“US$ 38 million of non-reimbursable cooperation, which will go to the educational system, which will benefit many children, seems to me a lack of maturity and even irresponsibility to have rejected that,” the president said this Friday when asked on the controversial issue.
The Chamber of Deputies voted this week in favor of the repeal of Law 6,699/20, “which approves the financing agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Paraguay, for the Support Program for the Transformation of the Educational System in Paraguay and its Annexes”.
The president affirmed that “this cooperation from the European Union has nothing to do with our process of educational transformation” and affirmed that his government will defend the family.
“I committed to that in the campaign, and no gender ideology material is going to be introduced and we are going to continue defending family values, that is not in doubt,” he said.
Abdo also announced that in the event that the law approved by the Deputies passes the Senate, he will veto it.
He considered that its approval in Deputies was due to a campaign of manipulation for electoral purposes, where pressure was generated on legislators and that some could not stand it.
“This is simply an electoral itinerary where once again they want to manipulate the people,” he said.
