The International Junior Chamber (JCI) in the Dominican Republic chose the young Marinel Canela as its national president for the period 2023-2024 for her hard work and social commitment, especially in rural communities promoting inclusion projects and development of young leadership, in the last 15 years .
Canela was unanimously elected during a convention held by the youth organization and in 2023 she will be in charge of leading 10 local organizations that have an active social life in the country.
Likewise, he will lead the national projects and the international representation of the organization. In 2022, she represented the Dominican Republic as the first Dominican in three years to graduate from the World Leadership Academy, held in the city of Odawara, Japan, where she had an internationally recognized participation.
In this sense, the JCI President said that “today more than ever we need human beings who understand that they are a fundamental part of the success we seek as a society, leaders who are willing to carry with them the banner of a duty and a cause of everyone”.
He added that together with the young people who make up the organization in the country, he will continue to promote “not only projects in our communities, but also raise their voices, which shine with their own light: entrepreneurs, professionals, students, who know we can make this world one better”.

Marinel Canela, a native of La Ceiba, Bonao, has a Law Degree, with an inclination to the international area, CEO of Canela Law & Consulting. She graduated from the World Leadership Academy in Japan, and from programs at Harvard, Business Development at the Ministry of Commerce in China and Chairperson of the Global Peace movement in the Caribbean.
The new JCI president has 15 years of dedication to the development of communities in the Dominican Republic, and leads integration projects, youth leadership, and women in their workplaces. She has been recognized by the OAS, the Ministry of Youth, Trust of Americas for her contributions to the female community. In the last 5 years she has been a mentor in programs in Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Peru and Honduras.
