Caro Quintero was one of the most wanted men by the United States government, for the murder of the American agent Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena, which occurred in 1985 in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In that year he was arrested that year in Costa Rica, however, on August 9, 2013 he was released by an amparo granted for an “erroneous criminal process” or “technicality”, but in 2015, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) ordered his arrest again.

The DEA requires Caro Quintero for the crimes of kidnapping, murder of a federal agent, aid and abetment, possession and distribution of marijuana and cocaine, as well as operation of a criminal enterprise.

While the FBI accuses him of conspiracy to commit violent crimes in aid of organized crime, violent crimes in aid of organized crime, conspiracy, kidnapping and murder of a federal agent, among others.

The DEA offered 20 million dollars for whoever provided data that led to the capture of Rafael Caro Quintero, while in April 2018, the FBI added him to its list of the 10 most wanted fugitives.
