Marielle case would be impossible to investigate without PF autonomy, says Andrei

The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, said, in an interview with TV Brasilthis Tuesday (11), that the need for authorization from state governors for the corporation to act against organized crime would be unacceptable. This was a proposal from the PL Antifaction rapporteur, Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP), before retreating from the idea this Tuesday (11). Marielle case would be impossible to investigate without autonomy, says PF

Rodrigues exemplified that independent investigations in the case of the murder of councilor Marielle Franco would be made impossible if they required State consent.

“We uncovered a crime there that included the participation of State agents and high-ranking State agents. There was an advisor from the Court of Auditors, a federal deputy and also police officers involved in this crime”, stated the director of the PF in an interview with TV Brasil.

Rodrigues also recalled that the Hidden Carbon operation was carried out because it had autonomy for investigation and action.

“We must take advantage of the opportunity to improve the criminal justice system, to bring new tools and to expand the capabilities of the Police. Not just the Federal Police.” He argued that it is necessary to advance cooperation, integration and combating organized crime.

Weakens against mafia

Another example cited this Tuesday came from the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. He considered that the first opinion of deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP) could compromising ongoing investigations into the activities of organized crime in the fuel sector.

According to the minister, that text could weaken the role of the Federal Revenue Service and the Federal Police (PF) in combating criminal organizations.

“Unconstitutional”, says Lewandowski

Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, of Justice and Public Security, stated, on Tuesday night (11), that he hopes that the Anti-Faction bill, authored by the government and sent to the Chamber on October 31, will be used “in 100% or 90%”. He cited surprise at the “speed” with which the report on the bill was presented and said that part of the opinion related to the Federal Police is “unconstitutional”.
