Mexico City, Mexico. – Mariela Castro Espín, the director of the National Center for Sex Education (CENESEX) from Cuba, together with the Brazilian Frei Betto and the Cubans José Ramón Fabelo Corzo and Miguel Erasmo Zaldívar Carrillo will participate in the II International Congress on Education to be held on January 19, 20 and 21, 2023 in Oaxaca, Mexico.
In addition to the Cubans, to the event “Social Realities and Popular Educations. The Historical Project of Our America” Panelists from Argentina and Colombia were invited.
“Mariela Castro arrives from Cuba at the Congress of Oaxaca, Mexicoto share all her knowledge and all her struggle as director of the National Center for Sexual Education of Cuba (CENESEX)”, indicates the Facebook page of the event, which on the Mexican side has invited exhibitors very close to the Havana regime and with a history of violent activism.
From Oaxaca, for example, highlights Maria del Carmen Lopez Vasquez, leader of the teachers of the southern state, and who was accused in 2015 of “attacks on communication channels, injuries against elements of the public force, blockade of federal facilities such as PEMEX and the Antonio Dovali Jaime Refinery, kidnapping of federal personnel. The charges against her also included the seizure of booths and usufruct of federal resources and robbery, “according to information released by the site Oaxaca Chronicle.
But who organized the II International Congress of Education?
According to the image shared on the Facebook page, the “extensive invitation” comes from the Autonomous Movement of Emancipatory and Communal Education (MAEEC) of Mexico and the Cooperativa de Educadorxs e Investigadorxs Populares Histórica (CEIPH) based in Argentina.
The person who coordinates the MAEEC, and one of the organizing arms of this propagandistic meeting, is Miguel Erasmo Zaldívar Carrillo, a resident of the Aztec country from Holguin. Zaldívar is not only one of the main voices of the solidarity movement with Cuba in Oaxaca, but also a fervent defender of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
On your Facebook wall You can also find support for Russia’s war against Ukraine, disinformation in favor of Muammar Gaddafi, the last dictator of Libya, and praise for dictatorships such as Ortega in Nicaragua and Maduro in Venezuela. His last publication was dedicated to Fidel Castro and to praising “the achievements of the Revolution.”
Zaldívar, a graduate in Education specializing in Physics and Astronomy, traveled to Oaxaca as part of an agreement signed in March 2005 between Mexico and Cuba for literacy and human development called “Margarita Maza de Juárez”. The official arrived in Villa de Sola de Vega, about 95 kilometers from the city of Oaxaca, in his role as coordinator of the program and never lived in Cuba again.
Just those years, the southern state experienced one of the most violent and long conflicts between the teachers’ union and the local government, led by Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Precisely Ruiz, accused of dozens of human rights violationswas the one who was in charge of taking the pedagogues from Cuba.
That Mariela Castro is part of the panelists of the event is not surprising since the Cuban sexologist is a regular guest at academic and political meetings in Mexico. Recently, in June of this year, she participated in the IX Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Social Sciences as one of the main speakers. In that panel she promoted Castro’s propaganda with the theme “The emancipatory project of the Cuban Revolution: challenges of transformation (Second Part)”.
In fact, the daughter of Raúl Castro has been invited several times by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) to share Cuba’s progress in LGBTIQ+ matters of social “justice and equity”. In 2019, the Chihuahua Book Fair invited her to speak on Human Rights.
