Marianela Núñez will dance the classic Don Quixote in Havana

He National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) announced that the Argentine Marianela Núñez will perform on the island as part of the performance season of Don Quixoteone of the classics in his repertoire.

Núñez, one of the most prominent figures in world dance, will take the stage during the performances that the company will offer on December 28 and 30 at the National Theater, according to a report from the agency Latin Press (PL).

The star of the Royal Ballet will share the spotlight on that day with the dancer of Cuban origin Patricio Revé, guest artist of the British company and leading figure of the Queensland Ballet, from Australia.

The specialized critics, cited by the media, highlight Núñez’s extraordinary technical level, as well as a magnetism that generates fascination in the audiences of the most famous theaters on the planet.

That is why several media outlets in her country have come to call her the “Messi of ballet”, while she is cataloged in the United Kingdom as one of the most complete dancers of her generation.

Thanks to her talent, she received the prestigious Olivier Award in that nation (2013), in addition to deserving the award as Best Dancer in four editions of the National Dance Awards (2005, 2012, 2018 and 2022).

For her outstanding achievements in the dance world, last year King Charles III named her an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Point out Latin Press that Núñez has also been recognized in others, including Russia, where she was awarded the coveted Benois de la Danse, considered the Oscar in ballet, the Konex de Platino (2009) as “Best dancer of the decade” and the María Ruanova Award.

The Argentine dancer has 27 years with the Royal Ballet in London, several of them sharing the stage with the Cuban star Carlos Acosta, who chose her to star together in the world premiere of his own version of Don Quixote.

High expectations

Núñez’s presentations in Havana will also allow us to appreciate the virtuosity of Revé, considered one of the great talents to emerge from the BNC thanks to his “refinement and impeccable technical neatness,” the publication states.

The Don Quixote season aims to pay tribute to the prima ballerina assoluta Cuban Alicia Alonsoon the occasion of the 105th anniversary of his birth.

In addition to the performances with Núñez as the protagonist, the choreography will be presented on the stages of the emblematic capital theater on December 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 29, in addition to January 1, 2026.

It turned out that several dancers from the BNC will have the opportunity on those days to debut in the main roles of Don Quixote, which will also be assumed by the company’s first dancers.

Among the protagonists, the names of Anette Delgado, Dani Hernández, Yanquiel Vázquez, Ányelo Montero, Gabriela Druyet, Nadila Estrada, Laura Kamila and Alejandro Alderete, among others, stand out.
