Citizens heeded the call made by María Corina Machado and are in the streets expressing their support for the candidate Edmundo González Urrutia
Before 11:00 am, people began to gather in front of the Lido Center in Chacao. With their banners and records in hand, they said that “we are demanding the greatest electoral fraud in our history,” while they waited for the arrival of María Corina Machado and the opposition leadership.
“I went out to protest for everyone. Especially for those who are now being persecuted and for everything they are doing (…) we all know that these elections had to be in December, things did not go as the regime thought, but Edmundo, who is our president, will take office on January 10,” said Mariela, one of the participants in the mobilization called by the opposition on August 28.
Among the first political leaders to arrive were Delsa Solórzano, Tomás Guanipa, Andrés Velásquez and Alfredo Ramos. People joined the rally that began its advance through Chacao.
Maria Corina Machado, leader of the opposition, said at the rally that in the last month the cause of Venezuela has been transformed into a global cause. “While we are speaking, they are listening to us (…) not a single democratic government in the world has recognized the fraud.”
He recalled that on July 28, more than eight million Venezuelans voted. “Today, seeing each one of you has the greatest meaning and strength. You know, we have to take care of ourselves to do the task and get to the end.”
Machado stressed that today marks one month since we have had a new president-elect, Edmundo González Urrutia. One month with a brave and honest man, a month in which he is interacting with the world.
He said they would remain on the streets, but asked people to protect themselves “because what the regime has unleashed is brutal.”
