MADRID, Spain.- Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado publicly celebrated the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize this Friday, hours after The Norwegian Committee will announce her name as the winner. Through his official account on X, Machado qualified the distinction as a determining impulse to achieve political change in Venezuela.

The leader referred to the award as an “immense recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans” and “an impulse to complete our task: conquering Freedom.”

“We are on the threshold of victory and today more than ever we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the people of Latin America and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies,” he added on the social network.

Finally, the opponent closed her message with an emphatic statement that summarizes her position and desire: “Venezuela will be free!”

Machado, the first Venezuelan to receive a Nobel Prize, receives this recognition for “her tireless fight in defense of democratic rights and her commitment to a peaceful transition to democracy,” according to the Nobel Committee during the official announcement made in Oslo.

After hearing the news, other voices from the region reacted, including the Cuban activist Rosa María Payáwho published in X a message of support for Machado: “Courage and hope, dressed as a woman. Thank you, María Corina, for your fight. Thank you for reminding the world that FREEDOM is essential to achieve PEACE.”

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony is scheduled for December 10, 2025. The opposition leader, who faces political disqualifications and persecution by the Nicolás Maduro regime, has become one of the most visible figures of the Venezuelan opposition in the last decade. In 2023 he won the opposition primary elections, although he was unable to participate in the presidential elections the following year due to his political disqualification.

He currently lives in hiding within Venezuela, but continues to coordinate the opposition’s political strategy. His award comes at a time of strong international pressure on the Venezuelan regime and growing expectations about an eventual political change.
