The Superior Court of Cartagena ratified the sentence of 35 years in prison against Margareth Chacón, considered a key piece in the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, which occurred in May 2022 in Barú, Colombia.
The decision confirms the responsibility of Chacón in the coordination of homicide, but also enlivens the debate on the transparency of the process and the treatment received by the accused during the trial.
During the hearing, Margareth Chacón broke his silence with shocking statements. Between tears, he said that Colombian justice has treated her degrading, ensuring: “They have never let me talk. In all my audiences I have not stopped being the lady of company to the prostitute. They had tortured me five months in a bunker”
In addition, he demanded that the evidence and statements be reviewed carefully that, according to her, have been manipulated: “I just want to investigate with magnifying up all the lies that Mr. Mario Andrés Burgos Patiño has said”
However, the judge clarified that in this phase of the process only extraordinary resources would be considered.
Defense resources and allegations

The murder of Marcelo Pecci, a prosecutor specialized in drug trafficking and money laundering, shook Paraguay and Colombia. The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office argues that Chacón played a crucial role in the coordination of the crime, but she insists that her conviction is based on inconsistent evidence.
