Starting next week, the supporters of this new force will begin holding the 200 district assemblies and affiliation tasks, not only to meet the requirements of the law, but even double them, with 500 thousand members.
In one year, until the beginning of 2026, organizations interested in becoming political parties must accredit a number of members equivalent to 0.26 percent of the electoral roll, that is, 256,030 citizens with a valid voting credential.
However, said Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, leader of the National Civic Front – one of the organizations calling for the new party -, in order not to have registration problems, they will prove they have double that figure.
“They are not going to give it to us, we are going to get it from the people. For this reason, we have set ourselves the goal of playing two games in one. We are going to have to do twice as much, yes, but they will not be able to prevent us from being on the ballot giving the political fight to this bad government that we have,” he said.
The organization has worked on its constitution after the defeat of June 2024 in which, together with dozens of other groups, it formed the ”Pink Tide”, first in defense of the National Electoral Institute (INE) and then in support of the former presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez.
The name of the party and its identification as “Somos mx” was constructed by the militants through social networks; They have now officially submitted their notification of intention to become a political party to the INE.
Given the INE’s refusal to use its esplanade for the kickoff rally, they formally presented themselves at the Tlatelolco Convention Center.
Somos Mx includes public figures and politicians behind this new force, such as Acosta Naranjo and Carlos Navarrete, both former leaders of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), as well as Cecilia Soto, former presidential candidate of the Labor Party, and Emilio Álvarez Icaza, former senator and capital exombudsman.
Others are the former candidate for the presidential candidacy in 2024, Enrique de la Madrid, the former PRD member Fernando Belaunzarán, the activist Amado Avendaño, and academics such as José Antonio Crespo; Macario Schettino, Mariclaire Acosta, Edmindo Jacobo, former executive secretary of the INE and Adina Chelminsky.
According to Acosta Naranjo, Xochitl Gálvez, with whom rapprochement is maintained, decided not to join the new force although there are coincidences.
